Assessment & Reporting
Assessment is the process of collecting evidence about student learning and it informs teachers about what their students know, understand and can do. This information is then used to plan teaching/learning activities for their students. The expectations for each learning stage are summarised on by in the NSW Board of Studies Foundation Statements.
So we can give parents an accurate picture of their child’s learning, our school conducts formal interviews at the end of Term 1 a written report using the grade scale is sent home at the end of Term 2 and Term 4.
Parents are more than welcome to contact their child’s teacher at any time during the year to organise further interviews if they are at all concerned about their child.
In addition to this school based assessment there are also a number of DET assessments in primary school.
- Best Start Kindergarten Assessments in literacy and numeracy – help teachers to identify the learning needs of your child
- National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) – assesses students’ skills in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling punctuation and grammar. All students in Years 3 and 5 sit these assessments in May NAPLAN results help teachers meet the individual literacy and numeracy needs of students. You will receive a detailed written report of your child’s achievements in their assessments.
