THE LOST THING

TERM 4 2011

Last term's Book Week celebrations were a huge success. All classes enjoyed learning about the Shortlisted Books. The theme of "One World Many Stories" provided a valuable and entertaining basis for our activities.
The Book Fair was once again well supported by our students and parents, as was the Book Character Parade and Barbeque. Particularly successful was students exchanging stories with different classes. They enhanced the presentation of their stories by using accompanying puppets which they had made in class. All teachers were very proud of their classes and the students loved learning, practising and sharing their stories.

This term in the library,we will be busy getting ready for stocktake. Borrowing ceases in week 6.

THE LOST THING

THE LOST THING

By Shaun Tan

The Lost Thing is a humorous and clever picture book by Australian author and illustrator Shaun Tan. A boy discovers a weird-looking, large creature while out collecting bottle-tops at a beach. He guesses that it's lost and feels sorry for it, so tries to find out who owns it, or where it belongs. The problem is though, that no one else really cares about it, or even notices it. Shaun Tan uses his clever technique of detailed collage to keep the reader enthralled, as little pieces of information are discovered, hidden in the many sections of the page. Shaun Tan has other captivating books with a similar style of writing and illustrations.
I would recommend this book for seven year olds and up.
