School History
(from the Archives of the Mitchell Library)
On 8th December 1864 a formal application was made for the establishment of a national school at Lambton. Signatories to the document were Messrs Croudace and Issac Bowman.
The applicants urged that the school be established as soon as possible because a Mr Morehead and a Mr Young were willing to grant an area of land adjoining the Lambton township as a site for a school.
By the end of May 1865, the work had proceeded so well that a letter was received from a Mr David Hicks requesting appointment as Teacher-in-Charge of Lambton School.
On the 25th September, the school’s first principal commenced duties with an enrolment by the end of the year of 82 boys and 83 girls. The school enrolment reached its highest figure in 1887 with an enrolment of 727 students.
